Maple Youth Ballet

The Arts Council of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Performing Arts Center Foundation cosponsored a very special Christmas event in December of 2009.

The Maple Youth Balle
t presented two performances of “The Nutcracker” at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center, under the directorial guidance of veteran ballet choreographer and artistic director, Charles Maple.

Charles is a former soloist with American Ballet Theatre, an award winning choreographer and a teacher and the artistic director of the Maple Conservatory of Dance in Irvine, Ca.

The performance included Big Bear's young dancers, and local dancer/choreographer Cathy Winch staged the Mother Ginger dance and other portions of the production.  Winch said, "This is an unprecedented opportunity for young dancers in our community to be involved in a ballet production of this caliber. I am most excited and honored to be a part of the Maple Youth Ballet's Nutcracker".

Maple Youth Ballet is a Pre-Professional, Non-Profit Ballet Company located in Orange County which showcases southern California’s preeminent young talent. Founded in October 2007, the organization is devoted to providing young dancers with the exposure, training and performance opportunities to bridge the gap between student and professional dancers, while at the same time, offering Southern California communities professional quality performances at affordable prices and the opportunity to learn about and gain a greater appreciation for the art of dance.
